Plastic Surgery Word of the Week: Symmastia
Monday November 24, 2008
Hint#1: Symmastia is a problem that can occur in some women who get breast implants.
Hint #2: Does the word "unaboob" mean anything to you? Okay, so maybe it's not really a word...but you knew what I was talking about, didn't you?
For the vast majority of breast augmentation patients, the operation turns out well, and they are satisfied with their new "girls". However, not everyone is so fortunate. Symmastia is one of several possible cosmetically undesirable results of breast augmentation. Would you like to learn about a few other rather unattractive ways breast implants can go wrong? Check out the definitions of:
capsular contracture
bottoming out
double bubble
Then again, if you want to see the ones that turn out right, feel free to peruse my gallery of breast augmentation before and after photos.
Finally, if you would like to talk about breast implants, ask for others' opinions on what size you should get, or tell the story of how your surgery went wrong (or right), please join the discussion in our plastic surgery forum.
