It's well known that China is one of the largest manufacturers and leading exporters of consumer goods - electronics, clothing, toys, and industrial goods - in the world. Look around your home - you'll be hard-pressed NOT to find an item that doesn't have a "Made in China" label on it.
China isn't stopping at consumer goods. A recent article in the New York Times reports China is ranked third in the world, behind the United States and Brazil, in plastic surgery procedures. According to the official Xinhua News Agency, cosmetic surgery is a $2.5 billion a year industry in China.
With more than two million operations annually, cosmetic plastic surgery has become the fourth most popular way to spend discretionary income in China. Only houses, cars, and travel rank higher, according to Ma Xioaowei, China's Health Ministry. The reasons for undergoing plastic surgery in China echo those in the United States - to look like certain celebrities, for career purposes, and to look like a better versions of one's self.
The most popular operation in China is double-eyelid surgery, a surgery performed to create a crease in the upper eyelid. The second most popular operation is rhinoplasty, also known as nose reshaping. The primary difference in Asian rhinoplasty as opposed to more Western rhinoplasty is that the bridge of the nose is built up instead of reduced.
So to all the naysayers who believe the United States is falling behind China in consumerism, not so fast! When it comes to plastic surgery, the Unites State is still number one!

The volume of Plastic Surgeries taking place in Iran i also huge and likely to catch up with America.
