Breast Reduction: Wait For the Weight?

A recent study about breast reduction revealed that obese women who have breast reduction before massive weight loss are unhappy with their breast appearance after they've lost weight. "Obese" was defined as a BMI (body mass index) over 30. BMI is a measurement that accounts for height and weight.

So what does this mean? Should obese women wait to have their breast reduction and/or breast lift until after they're done losing weight?

Large breasts can be a great hindrance. Finding clothing and bras that fit, exercise, and social interactions may be more difficult due to large breasts. Additionally, shoulder and back pain can result. If a woman cannot live her life as she desires because her large breasts are in the way, then undergoing breast reduction surgery is a reasonable option. Even if she is obese and plans on losing a large amount of weight, a woman can start to enjoy the benefits of a smaller bust size immediately. This may even encourage weight loss as it will be easier to exercise. And if the appearance of the breasts change so much after weight loss that another surgery is required to make the breasts perky again, a woman can take solace in the fact she did not delay enjoying the freedom that comes with breasts that don't get in the way!

What about those women who decide to wait until they lose weight to have breast reduction surgery, but then never actually lose weight? They're doomed to carry the extra breast weight for as long they continue to be overweight. The majority of breast reduction patients are happy they had the procedure done. Breast reduction surgery can be performed more than once on the same person, so waiting until after weight loss is not necessary.
