Breast implants have been in the news again. And it's not for a good reason. The French company Poly Implant Prostheses (PIP), which is now recently defunct, produced breast implants with materials not in line with the industry standard for breast implant manufacturing. Specifically, PIP made their breast implants with industrial grade silicone as opposed to a medical grade silicone.

Not only French women are affected. PIP has sold their implants to many countries around the world. According to BBC News Health, there are thought to be approximately 300,000 PIP implants that were sold around the world. So what exactly does this mean for women with breast implants?

Some countries are recommending removal while others don't recommend removal unless there is a leak or rupture. For more details: Another Breast Implant Scare

After having PIP implants, I didn’t want to take the risk of my implants rupturing. I had them removed when news of the scandal came out and am really happy that I did!
