While there are many things that are much easier for today's teens - Do they even know what the Dewey Decimal system is? Or an encyclopedia? - there are many aspects about being a teenager in today's world that are not so easy.

Recently 14-year-old Nadia Ilse, underwent $40,000 of plastic surgery due to relentless bullying and taunting about her "Dumbo" ears. She had an otoplasty to pin back her ears as well as a rhinoplasty (nose job) and a mentoplasty (chin surgery).

Granted, teasing and bullying are not new phenomena. But the belief or idea that there is a standard of beauty that if not met, basically devalues a person is rampant. Unfortunately this message has been embedded into budding minds of tomorrow's leaders. A recent surveydemonstrated that 88% of young girls and women aged 15-25 and 73% of males in the same age group, would change something about their bodies. Of these, 15% would consider plastic surgery.

Access to plastic surgery has become easier with time. If you know a teenager who is considering plastic surgery, there are a few important things that must be taken into consideration.

I think there is a lot more focus today on image and the concept of beauty. I had cosmetic surgery in Birmingham after being bullied since the age of 12 about my appearance.
