I just read a story about two sisters, Jennifer age 23, and Karen age 20 who started having plastic surgery at age 15 and 14, respectively. They both eventually had more plastic surgery. They are now unhappy with their appearance because the surgical enhancements draw unwanted attention. Their surgeries included breast augmentation, liposuction, rhinoplasty, and Brazilian butt lift.
While most plastic surgery is elective, that does not mean it should be taken lightly. Yes, some teenagers may be quite mature, but when it comes to matters of making permanent changes to one's appearance, it may be best to leave such changes until adulthood. Bodies and attitudes towards the body are in constant flux in the teen years. What seems like a good idea at age 15 may seem awful at a later age.
If you have a teen considering plastic surgery, it is important to consider the four M's:
- Maturity
- Motivation
- Mentality
- Mindfulness
