The patient is marked before surgery.
Your surgeon will use a surgical marker to indicate where the incision will be, generally in one of four locations:
  • Axilla: An incision is made in the natural fold or crease in the armpit.
  • Areola: An incision is made on the lower border of the areola
  • Inframammary fold: An incision made in the natural fold or crease underneath the breast
  • Umbilicus: An incision made in the belly button or navel
The location of your incision will depend on the shape and size of your breast, the type of implant (saline versus silicone gel) that will be used, and your surgeon’s preference.
