the complete or partial surgical removal of the corrugator muscle (the muscle which draws the eyebrows together and wrinkles the brow in frowning); it is often performed in conjunction with a brow lift through an incision inside the hairline or in conjunction with an eyelift via an incision in the crease of the eyelid. This is considered by some as a permanent alternative to Botox for treating the vertical lines between the brows (frown lines). This differs from a corrugator myotomy, which involves only cutting partway through the muscle to decrease furrowing of the brow (whereas removing all or part of the muscle eliminates furrowing altogether).
There is some controversy regarding this procedure, as it can create an undesirable depression in the area between the brows, and some doctors also believe it creates an unnatural permanently “surprised” look in patients.
