Definition: Cosmetic tattooing, used to emulate the appearance of makeup (also known as permanent makeup). It is also used to camouflage scars and skin discolorations, to mimic the appearance of hair, especially in patients with alopecia (a skin condition which causes patients to lose hair), or to cosmetically recreate the areolar complex (the nipple and colored area around the nipple) in women who have undergone breast reconstruction.
